School children are encouraged to speak out against bullying

School children are encouraged to speak out against bullying
One-quarter of school children face bullying in Australian schools and many do not speak out about it, hoping that the problem will magically go away.

ReachOut, an online organisation that provides practical tools and support to help young people get through everything from everyday issues to tough times, surveyed 14 to 25-year-olds and found that one in four had been a victim of bullying in the past 12 months.

Most bullying occurred at school (affecting 52 per cent of those bullied), with significant levels online (25 per cent) and in the workplace (25 per cent).

Bullying impacts on general wellbeing and mental health. Students who have been bullied are encouraged to let a parent or teacher know what is happening, as they can often help to prevent it from continuing.
