Groundbreaking Australian study finds thousands of children and teenagers suffer mental illness
An estimated 560,000 Australian children and teenagers are experiencing serious mental health issues. The research team talked with 6,300 families and is the biggest survey of mental health problems in children and adolescents in Australia.
Since the most recent comparable study in 1998, more teenagers are experiencing depression, and 1 in 13 children aged 12-17 years have seriously contemplated suicide. Hearteningly though, more teenagers are aware of services that can help and are accessing these services. Read more about it in a Sydney Morning Herald artice here.
